2012 and the end of the world...

No doubt, you've been hearing people talk about 2012 being the end of the world. The idea comes from the ancient Mayans. The Maya calendar stops in December of this year and that has some pundits predicting that there will be some catastrophic occurrence that obliterates the world. The pundits have been wrong many times before and they are most likely wrong now. "USA Today" has published a decent article that attempts to explain why 2012 is ... << MORE >>

Support Inyang Bassey and the arts....

I recently became addicted to Moby's CD, "Destroyed." In particular, I fell in love with the voice of a woman on several of the tracks. It turns out that amazing voice belongs to Inyang Bassey. Bassey plans to release an EP later this year. << MORE >>

Happy Birthday Gia! There is still time....

Happy Birthday Gia!!

As I write this, there is still time to get to Sally O'Brien's Bar & Grill in Somerville, Mass., if you live in the New England area. Mari and the Others perform there tonight at 8 p.m.. The band has a new line up so check it out if you can. Mari wrote and performs a song dedicated to Gia:  Beautiful Girl/Flying High. I think Gia likes it.

Gia as a feeling, Gia as art.

To me, Gia IS art. Nearly every photo I see of her is magic; she conjures up certain feelings in me, feelings that I can't always explain. There is a certain melancholia about her. Perhaps you are familiar with the Brazilian/Portuguese word:  Saudade. There is no single word in the English language that conveys its meaning. But I see it in Gia every time I look at her. People often describe Gia as:  hot, wild, male, female, ... << MORE >>

Shoulda, woulda and coulda...

Most people who have a conscience have certain regrets about things they've done or said during their lifetime, or about things that they didn't do or say:  "I shoulda, woulda or coulda."

We can't go back in time. But what we can do, is to take those regrets and think about how we will act, or what we will do or say the next time we are in similar circumstances. That's the only thing 'shoulda, woulda and coulda,' are ...

Gia in a new art collection

I've always said Gia is art.  Katie Glantz must think so too. Glantz has a new collection celebrating the 23rd anniversary of the death of Salvador Dali:  'The Femme Historique Concatenation.'  The Dallas artist has added her own touch to several photographic images of iconic women including Bettie Page, Coco Chanel and our favorite, Gia Carangi. Check it out:

Is it true? The Gia Coffee Table Book will be out soon?

If you've signed up for Gia Carangi alerts on Google, no doubt you received a notice saying that JJ Martin's Coffee Table book with "never before seen" photos of Gia is coming soon. I for one hope that this time it will happen. But I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for it; it's been coming soon since 2004. For those of you who don't know, Martin is the producer of the documentary, "The Self Destruction of Gia." ... << MORE >>

Gia Photos

If you have any favorite Gia photos, feel free to post them here. I'd love to see your rare photos and artwork.

I love so many Gia photos/scans that it's hard for me to say which is my absolute favorite... I thought I'd post a few.

Curious?

I imagine someone who stumbles upon this blog may be interested in knowing what I sound like. If not, just pass on this post. But if you are curious, I've provided a couple of sound files for you to listen to, and maybe even enjoy.

In the winter of 1998, during Tallahassee's news doldrums, I decided to do a short series on a few older businesses in town. When I first started out, I imagined the series would point to the key ingredients of maintaining a successful business. I ended up with several extremely colorful ...
